Frida Kahlo in Yellow

My visit to LACMA was the first encounter with Frida’s work…. striking in intensity and from that moment on I became obsessed with painting her….trying to get a feeling of her essence. Her dark staring black eyes in my painting reveal that intensity exposing a life of great pain….but her apparent spirit is evident though she suffered greatly.
She was and still is a great influence for female artists of any age….
I have painted many faces of Frida in many mediums and I feel I capture an aura that she possessed a little differently each time.
This painting called Frida in Yellow was done on paper with ink and acrylic done in abstract expressionism and has been on exhibition at La Galeria Gitana. It received attention at that time as well as in my own home.
